June - Alexandrite & Pearl – Page 24 – Tresors Sydney

Collection: June - Alexandrite & Pearl

-Alexandrite-
Abundant alexandrite deposits were first discovered in 1830 in Russia’s Ural Mountains. Those first alexandrites were of very fine quality and displayed vivid hues and dramatic colour change.
The gem was named after the young Alexander II, heir apparent to the throne. It caught the country’s attention because its red and green colours mirrored the Imperial Russian flag.
-Pearls-
Officially the world's oldest gem, Pearls have been revered since long before written history. For this reason, their discovery cannot be attributed to one person in particular, but it is believed that they were first discovered by people searching for food along the seashore.
We know that they have been worn as a form or adornment for a millennia thanks to a fragment of people jeweller found in the sarcophagus of a Persian Princess that dates back to 420 BC, which is now on display at the Louvre in Paris.
